WARREN GATLAND'S WARNING

ABOVE: Warren Gatland has given h is Wales flops a warning
20th March 2010

By Phil Cadden

WARREN GATLAND has warned his Wales flops that no player is guaranteed a starting place.

Gatland admits he will gamble against Italy today by throwing in rookie wing Tom Prydie.

Prydie, 18, will become Wales’ youngest ever player, breaking Norman Biggs’ 122-year record, while Sam Warburton is handed his first championship start ahead of experienced flanker Martyn Williams.

But Wales boss Gatland insists his under-achieving stars must perform to stay in his side.

He said: “I do not think anyone is bulletproof – no-one is guaranteed selection. If players play well then they will be selected.

“Sam has an opportunity and if I was him, I would be going out there to make it as difficult as possible for the coaches not to select me for the next game.”

TV: BBC1, kick-off 2.30.
